1. Create a New 1024x768 image with a White Background. Use the Text Tool to create some Vector text using these settings
Settings used:
- Font Name = Your choice — I used Spaceman
- Size = 72
- Width = 1
- Create as = Vector
- Stroke = Black
- Fill = #fe5a1a
Hold Ctrl and place your cursor on the bottom-right corner of the bounding box. Drag the cursor right to deform the Text.
2. Duplicate the current layer. Go to Effect | Image Effects | Offset... (Press OK if an Auto Action dialog pops up) Use these settings.
Settings used:
- Horizontal offset = 0
- Vertical offset = 1
- Custom
- Edge Mode = Transparent
In the History palette, highlight your last two commands (Offset and Duplicate). Press the "Save Quickscript" button found on the palette. Next, press the "Run quickscript" button. Each time you press the button, your Text should rise. Keep pressing it until your satisfied with the height of the Text.
3. Hide the Background layer, then merge the visible layers. Press Ctrl+A, Ctrl+F, then Ctrl+Shift+F to create a Selection. Duplicate the current layer. Go to Effects | Illumination Effects | Lights... use the Default settings. Set the layer blend mode to Screen. Merge Down the layer (Layers | Merge | Merge Down)
4. Apply a Negative to the image. Make the Background layer active, then create a New layer. Go to Selections | Modify | Expand... expand by 2. Press F to activate the Flood Fill Tool, then fill the selection with Black. Hide the Background layer, then merge the visible layers.
5. Duplicate the merged layers. Make the middle layer active. Press Shift+B and set the Brightness to -255 and Contrast to 0. Set the current layer Opacity to 20.
Press M to activate the Move Tool, then move the Text on the top layer up, until you are satisfied with the placement of the shadow.
That's it! You are now entering the 3rd dimension.
