Flame Text
1. Create a New 800x600 image with a Black Background. Use the Text Tool to create some vector text using these settings.
Settings used:
- Font Name = Your choice — I used Supreme
- Size = 72
- Width = 0
- Create as = Vector
- Anti alias = Checked
- Stroke = None
- Fill = White
Center the text by going to Objects | Align | Center on Canvas.
Merge Down the layer (Layers | Merge | Merge Down).
2. Duplicate the current layer. Press Ctrl+R to Rotate. Use these settings.
Settings used:
- Direction = Right
- Degrees = 90
- Width = 0
- All Layers = Unchecked
- Rotate single layer around canvas center = Checked
Go to Effects | Distortion | Wind... Use these settings.
Settings used:
- Wind direction = From left
- Wind strenght = 100
Press Ctrl+R to Rotate. This time change the direction to Left and press OK.
3. Press Shift+L to Colorize. Set the Hue to 25 and the Saturation to 255.
Duplicate the current layer. Press Shift+L again. This time set the Hue to 0, but leave the Saturation at 255. Set the layer blend mode to Dodge. Merge Down the layer.
4. This step will require some skill on your part. Activate the Warp Brush Tool. Reset the tool by pressing the Presets button in the Tool Options palette, then press the Reset to default button. Now set the Warp mode to Push, Size to 50, and Hardness to 10.
Now click and drag the glowing parts up and wiggle the brush while doing so. You can press Ctrl+Z to undo any strokes you are not happy with.
5. When you are satisfied with the look of the flames, press Apply in the Tool Options palette. Duplicate the current layer, then set the layer blend mode to Screen. Go to Adjust | Blur | Gaussian Blur... blur by 8. Next, go to Effects | Distortion Effects | Wave... Use these settings.
Settings used:
- Both Amplitudes = 1
- Horizontal Wavelength = 10
- Vertical Wavelength = 20
- Edge mode = Transparent
6. Make the middle layer active. Press T to activate the Text Tool, then lay down some vector text like in Step 1, but this time change the Background color to Black. Center the text.
Make the top layer active, then put down some vector text again. This time set the Background color to the following Gradient.
Settings used:
- Gradient = Black-white
- Angle = 0
- Repeat = 0
- Invert = Unchecked
Center the text. Set the layer blend mode to Multiply with an Opacity of 80.
Duplicate the current layer. Set the layer blend mode to Dodge with an Opacity of 60.
7. Merge All layers. Duplicate the current layer, then Gaussian Blur by 50. Set the layer blend mode to Screen with an Opacity of 60. Merge Down the layer.
Duplicate the current layer. Set the layer blend mode to Screen with an Opacity of 60. Press Ctrl+I to Invert the image. Press M to active the Move Tool, then move the flames on the bottom so that the inverted image lines up with the text to look like a reflection. Press R to Crop your image so that only part of the reflection shows.
