PSP9 TUTORIALS
Glass Text
Note: There is a Cutout bug in PSP9 that will cause
jaggies when doing this tutorial, but they are not too
noticible when you resize down. Until Jasc — err... I
mean Corel — fixes the problem, you can do this
tutorial in PSP8
as it works perfectly in that
version.
1. Create a New image at 800x600 with a White background. Use the Text Tool to create some floating text using these settings.
Settings used:
- Font Name = Your choice — I used Garamond
- Size = 200
- Width = 1
- Create as = Floating
- Font Style = Bold
- Stroke = Black
- Fill = #A8E1F6
Press Ctrl+Shift+P to Promote Selection to Layer.
2. Press Ctrl+H to Feather by 2. Next, go to Adjust | Blur | Gaussian Blur... blur by 4.
3. With the selection still active, create a New layer. Go to Effects | 3D Effects | Cutout... use these settings.
Settings used:
- Vertical = 0
- Horizontal = -10
- Opacity = 100
- Blur = 0
- Shadow Color = White
- Fill interior with color = Unchecked
Gaussian Blur by 5. Set the current layer blend mode to Dodge with an Opacity of 40.
4. With the selection still active, create a New layer. Go to Cutout and use these settings.
Settings used:
- Vertical = -10
- Horizontal = 0
- Leave the other settings the same.
Set the current layer blend mode to Dodge with and Opacity of 20.
5. With the selection still active, create a New layer. Go to Cutout and use these settings.
Settings used:
- Shadow Color = Black
- Leave the other settings the same.
Set the current layer blend mode to Overlay with an Opacity to 75.
6. With the selection still active, create a New layer. Go to Cutout and use these settings:
Settings used:
- Vertical = 2
- Horizontal = 2
- Shadow Color = White
- Leave the other settings the same.
Press Ctrl+D to select none.
7a. Hide the Background layer, then merge the visible layers. Duplicate the merged layers. Go to Effects | Edge Effects | Erode... Next, press Ctrl+Y 5 times to repeat the effect. Finally, set the layer blend mode to Soft Light.
7b. Alternative: For cut glass, instead of doing an Erode, go to Effects | Edge Effects | Dilate... Next, press Ctrl+Y 3 times to repeat the effect. Finally, set the layer blend mode to Luminance (Legacy).
That's it! Now you can create Glass Text.
