MicroStripes

1. Create a New 20x20 image with a White background. Press Z to activate the Zoom Tool, then zoom in 1000%. Press F to activate the Flood Fill Tool, then fill the canvas with a color of your choice. I used a khaki color. ( #b8c485 )

2. Note: For this step, you may want to turn the Rulers on by going to View | Rulers. Or press Ctrl+Alt+R.

Press B to activate the Paint Brush Tool. Reset the tool by pressing the Presets button in the Tool Options palette, then press the Reset to default button. Set the size to 1. Set the Foreground color to a color of your choice. I used a soft yellow color ( #fbef99 ). Set your Background color to a different color. I used blue ( #13556b ).

Keep your eye on the Status bar and start at coordinates (x:0,y:10). Left-click, then hold Shift. Move to coordinates (x:9,y:19) while still holding Shift. Left-click to draw a diagonal yellow line. Draw another diagonal yellow line starting at (x:10,y:0) and ending at (x:19,y:9). Next, use a right-click to draw a blue line starting from the top-left corner, and ending at the bottom-right corner. Your image should look like the one above.

3. Press Ctrl+Shift+F6 to reset your Foreground and Background colors to Black and White. First, use the left mouse button to draw Black diagonal lines on the left side of the colored lines, then use the right mouse button to draw White diagonal lines on the right side of the colored lines. Finally, draw a 1-pixel White dot on the bottom-left corner, then draw a 1-pixel Black dot on the top-right corner. Your image should look like the one above.

That's it! This image is a seamless tile and can be saved for future use. You can easily change the colors of the background and lines to create different colored patterns.

Multi-Colored Stripes

1. Create a New 150x1 image with a White background. Set your Foreground and Background color to any two colors. I used red and gold. Press B to activate the Paint Brush Tool. Reset the tool by pressing the Presets button in the Tool Options palette, then press the Reset to default button. Set the size to 1.

Press Z to activate the Zoom Tool, then zoom in 500%. Now, use both mouse buttons to randomly draw red and gold lines. Be sure to leave some areas white.

2. Create a New 212x212 image with a White background. Press F to activate the Flood Fill Tool, then fill the image with the following Pattern.

Settings used:

  • Pattern = Image2 (Or whatever number the 150x1 image is)
  • Angle = 45 (or use 135. Use 0 or 90 if you want vertical or horizontal stripes, respectively)
  • Scale = 100

That's it! This 212x212 stripe pattern can be used as a seamless tile.

3. Extra: To create plaids, simply duplicate the current layer, then press Ctrl+M to Mirror (if your stripes are vertical or horizontal and not diagonal, then use Free Rotate (Ctrl+R) to rotate the top layer 90 degrees instead of using Mirror).

Change the current layers blend mode to Multiply with an Opacity between 30-50.

That's it! These plaid patterns are also tileable.
